SUMMER 1997

1) CCSU Assistant Professor Abigail E. Adams will travel to Guatemala during the Summer of 1997. The trip includes preparations for the 1998 field school; students interested in Spanish language school in Guatemala and/or in assisting with the field school preparations should contact Professor Adams at 832-2616, or through adams@ccsu.edu . This will be an exciting summer, the first in peacetime for Guatemala after 36 years!

2) The Center for Global Education is sponsorong a travel seminar to Guatemala and El Salvador, "Sustainable Development and Peace: Comparisons, Contrasts, Lessons," June 1-15, 1997. Highly recommended: April 21 deadline, $1865 cost from Miami. For brochures, contact Professor Adams.

4 ) Tulane University and the University of Texas at Austin run a highly-acclaimed Kaqchikel Maya language course in Antigua, Guatemala every summer. For more information, contact Professor Adams.

5) The Washington Office on Latin America accepts a limited number of unpaid interns to work with its program and administrative staff in Washington, D.C. WOLA follows U.S. foreign policy in the region, particularly human rights concerns. For more information, contact Professor Adams, or call 202 544-8045.
